Papua New Guinea
Remote, exotic and relatively untouched by the modern world, the enigmatic islands of Papua New Guinea promise a beautiful and remarkable adventure.
Home to ancient tribes and age-old traditions, the 600+ islands of Papua New Guinea are amongst some of the most culturally diverse and biodiverse on the planet. Guided jungle treks take you through verdant rainforest interiors teaming with wildlife found nowhere else on the planet - from tree kangaroo and birds of paradise to New Guinea tree frogs. Out to sea, underwater worlds don’t come more spectacular than the coral saturated waters at Kimbe Bay which are home to over 800 species of fish, 400 species of coral as well as sobering WWII shipwrecks.
This striking biodiversity is paralleled only by PNG’s unique cultural diversity, evidenced by the 800+ languages spoken in the country. Should you visit in September, you may get the chance to witness the ‘Goroka Show’ where over 100 tribes gather to perform a traditional ‘singsing’, a fabulous sharing of the island’s traditions and a highlight of the cultural calendar.
